An honest guide to one small place.
Gibraltar is six square kilometres, a few hundred places to stay, eat and go, and a lot of websites that will happily sell you the wrong one. Gibraltar Index exists to rank them straight — on merit, in the open, and never for sale.
What we do
We rank every hotel and short-stay apartment on the Rock on a single scale, sit the restaurants and the things to do beside them, and tell you which are worth your time — including the ones that are not. Where a score comes from, and the rule about how much evidence it takes before we will rank something at all, is set out in full onhow we rate.
What makes it independent
No business can pay to rank, to move up, or to soften a verdict. There are no sponsored placements and no advertising. The site earns its keep through affiliate links: if you book after following one, a partner may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you — and that link never changes the order. If a place is mediocre we say so by name, whether or not we earn a penny when you skip it. The full accounting is underhow we make money.
Where the numbers come from
The Stay Score is the guest rating from Booking.com, shown unchanged rather than massaged into a number of our own — read on 19 July 2026, the final pass before that source was discontinued, and dated on every listing. Fresh stay review readings now come from Tripadvisor and Google, refreshed monthly. Restaurants draw on Tripadvisor and Google. The written verdicts are our research on top of the data, dated so you can see how fresh they are.
What we get wrong
Plenty, eventually — a place closes, a price moves, a verdict ages. We date our work and re-check it, but the honest position is that a guide is never finished. If you find something wrong, tell us and we will fix it. Corrections are not an embarrassment here; they are the job.
