Nordin's Takeaway

Nordin's is a kebab takeaway on the Varyl Begg Estate, on the west side of town. It is not on Tripadvisor; on Google it scores 3.7 from 26 reviews, and the Index is 3.90 on Google alone. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest is from August 2025, so the picture is over a year old.

Its fans are emphatic. The Nordin special, described as a rolled wrap of meats, chips, cheese, egg, onion and sauces, is called the best kebab in Gibraltar and big enough for two; others call the shop the best takeaway in Gibraltar and one of a kind, and one long-time customer says Nordin himself is a lovely guy. Even a critical reviewer concedes the food is good most of the time.

The low score comes from two complaints that recur from 2021 to 2025, so this is not a passing phase. Cleanliness is the main one: reviewers describe a small, dirty space, stained display glass, cleaning products next to food and bare hands on the chips, and say it needs a proper clean and sanitising. Price is the other, with one customer charged £37 for two specials and a doner kebab and another saying it charges more than the food is worth.

There are outright bad meals on record too: chips soaked in oil, an untoasted kebab, flat cola. So the reviews split almost exactly between five stars and one, with the food itself rarely the problem and the room and the bill usually the reason for the low marks.
