Our review
Rock Bastion is the restaurant and bar in the King's Bastion Leisure Centre, the cinema, bowling and soft-play complex. It scores 2.5 on Tripadvisor from 22 reviews and 2.3 on Google from 60, and the Index puts it at 2.60, among the lowest in town. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026; the newest is from February 2026.
Service is the reason, and the complaints run from 2016 to 2025 without much change: waits of 45 minutes to over an hour in a near-empty room, orders arriving wrong or not at all, twenty minutes just to get a menu, a diner told to move from a table nobody had marked as reserved. Several reviewers say staff spoke little or no English and could not follow a complaint; one in April 2024 says a waitress swore at her partner in Spanish while dropping a pizza on the table.
The food is mixed at best. Chicken raw in parts after an hour's wait, greasy noodles, a tuna pizza an inch thick in cheese, a bag of Doritos passed off as nachos, mayonnaise served hot and dirty surroundings all come from separate reviewers. Against them, two Spanish visitors in February 2026 rated the chips and fried chicken highly and found it ideal for children, and locals rate the churros and papitas, though churros are only served at breakfast.
There are threads of credit. A waiter called Carlos is praised for quick, friendly service, with the caveat that things slow badly when he is not there; the fish and chips and a wine-tasting evening have their fans; and the setting works for families, next to the small park, with live entertainment on some evenings. Locals also recall it opening as a good seafood restaurant before a change of management broadened the menu to burgers and frozen pizza.
Come only if you are already at the leisure centre, with children in tow and time to spare, for churros or chips rather than a meal. Nobody from Gibraltar Index has eaten here; this write-up is from the reviews.

Terrible service
After waiting more than half an hour waitress being called more than twice. When they finally arrive they advise me that I have to move because although there's no sign on the table it is reserved.more →

Server couldn’t explain the menu
We asked for English breakfast. Asked what was in it she shrugged her shoulders. Asked if we could have scrambled not fried eggs and said No. We ordered coffees rather remove one coffee from the bill as breakfast came with coffee we had to get another coffee. Far too much on the menu
We were visiting the centre for a kids soft play party. I ordered food for my older child and myself to eat at the same time. We had the chicken and chips, and the sweet chilli chicken noodles. They were both very greasy. The noodles didn't come with what was specified in the description. I used paper towels to soak up all the oil that thmore →

I always have a great experience at this restaurant when Carlos is working. He's consistently quick, friendly, and always greets you with a smile. He's very sociable and makes the whole dining experience more enjoyable. You really feel well looked after when he's around. Unfortunately, the service is noticeably slower when he's not there.more →

Absolutely awful. Extremely poor service and the food was disgusting. Waited one hour for a boneless bucket of chicken that was raw in parts and the fries were borderline cooked. If you don't speak Spanish you don't stand a chance of complaining either. Overall AVOID THIS PLACE.more →
