Our review

Sam's Kitchen is an entirely plant-based takeaway and small café in the Don House Arcade off Main Street, with a deli next door under the same owners. It holds 4.6 on Tripadvisor from 8 reviews and 5.0 on Google from 163, which lands the Index at 4.90 on the strength of the Google count. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026; Google runs to 3 September, but the newest Tripadvisor review is from March 2026 and there are only eight of them.

The kebab is the dish. It is named more than anything else, in English and Spanish, and called a ten out of ten by one August 2026 family; the Not Fish and Chips, a guacamole burger and the brownie follow. Hot food is made fresh to order in view of the counter, the fridges hold lunch to take away, there is a new special every Wednesday, and the kitchen uses pea protein, which one allergic diner notes with relief.

The most useful signal is that non-vegans rate it. A local whose colleagues are mostly meat eaters says it is the office favourite, several Spanish reviewers say it will surprise anyone who is not vegan, and one couple who researched vegan options before their holiday went back three times in five days. The staff are called warm, especially with children, and the cook is praised outright.

The honest notes are about format and one person. It is a takeaway with four small tables and a counter, so seats are scarce at busy times. Three separate reviewers between October 2025 and May 2026 describe the woman on the till as abrupt or cranky, while praising everyone else. A July 2026 reviewer thought it worth paying a little extra, which suggests it is not the cheapest lunch.

Great Food and Location, but Service Can Be Inconsistent

Little hidden away, but nice enough to try
It was nice enough and good for vegetarians. The service was prompt enough and food was alright, pretty standard overall. We were asked what it we were after still (after having eaten) as they had they were dealing with other orders. Delicious food served a warm and friendly team
Sam's kitchen is such a lovely little place the tables outside are quaint and the staff are lovely! This restaurant is a favourite for all of my colleagues and most of them are meat eaters but thoroughly enjoy the vegan options provided by the team. Estuve allí la semana pasada con mi hijo y mi marido. Todo lo que pedimos estuvo delicioso pero el kebab fue un 10 absoluto, espero volver porque me quedé con las ganas de probar muchas más cosas de la carta.
