Our review
Vinopolis is a wine-led gastrobar on John Mackintosh Square in the centre of town, doing tapas and small plates with a long list of wines by the glass. It holds 4.5 on Tripadvisor from 371 reviews and 4.3 on Google from 347, which puts the Index at 4.40. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, with the newest from August.
The floor is still the reason people come back. Lucia is the name of the summer, thanked on both sources for helping guests choose and keeping an eye on the table, and Fran, Ylenia and Tereza carry on being named by regulars who say the staff have their coffee order going before they sit down. Reviewers also note it is one of the few places open on a Sunday, and that the menu marks allergens clearly, which coeliacs and vegetarians single out as a reason to trust it.
The wine list and the tapas earn steady praise. Beef stroganoff, goats' cheese risotto, prawns, beef in a Pedro sherry sauce and salmon with lemon are the dishes named, a deconstructed apple crumble with cinnamon gelato gets a rave, and a post-wedding party recommends the vegetarian croquettes, chard pie and falafel.
The picture on the kitchen has become less settled through 2026. A coeliac regular who had enjoyed the place before had a July lunch where three of four plates were poor: a burnt, lukewarm omelette, reheated mushrooms and a 'crispy' vegan cheese that was nothing of the sort. An August diner had a main that arrived badly reheated, a May reviewer got a roast cauliflower that was mush, another found the beef stroganoff main tiny for the money, and one Google review calls it too pricey for what you get. A Russian-speaking visitor found the room too brightly lit for a wine bar and the list smaller than expected, though the ham was very good. None of these fault the staff; all of them fault what left the pass.
Come for the wine, the coffee and warm, familiar service in a chic room with a heated, dog-friendly terrace, and stick to the tapas that reviewers keep naming. Should have ate at home.
I have been to vinopolis a few times and have usually enjoyed their food and I find that they have a good selection in the menu to accommodate a vegetarian and a celiac. Absolutely your best choice in Gibraltar for just a drink, or dinner.
What an amazing find! After a month in Andalucia we found Gibraltar to be a little sleepy in the evenings. Then we found VINOPOLIS Gastrobar. The place is trendy and fashionable, but it is the friendly staff that brought us back over and over. The delicious food is presented beautifully by their master chef. Nos atendieron bien y rápido. Pero mi plato no vino caliente de cocina. Estaba "mal recalentado". No lo disfruté. También pedimos un risotto que sí que nos supo mucho mejor.
