Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park
A small rescue park inside the botanic gardens: lemurs, tamarins, parrots and tortoises, £8 at the door.
A small conservation park tucked inside the Alameda Gardens, run as a charity. Its animals are mostly exotic species confiscated by the authorities, which is why the collection is what it is: ring-tailed lemurs, cotton-top tamarins, African grey parrots, Burmese pythons, peafowl and a range of tortoises, with an education programme and support for conservation projects abroad.
It is the one ticket in the gardens. Open ten until half past four from Thursday to Tuesday, ten until four on Wednesdays, with last entry half an hour before closing. Children under five go free.
Come for the gardens and add the park; it is not a zoo and does not pretend to be. Families with young children rate it well for exactly that reason.

The gardens are free and open until sunset; the park shuts mid-afternoon. Do the park first, then the gardens.
