King's Diner

King's Diner is a burger diner at the Kings Bastion Leisure Centre on Line Wall Road, alongside the arcade. It is not on Tripadvisor; on Google it scores 4.1 from 66 reviews, and the Index is 4.10. We re-read the reviews on 6 September 2026, seventeen with text, the newest from August 2026, and the recent ones tell a different story from the score.

The early reviews, from January and February 2025, are warm: 'proper restaurant grade burgers', a good carvery, a true English breakfast, good service. Some of that survives. A Spanish reviewer in August 2026 found good burgers at good prices in generous portions, an Italian visitor in May 2026 had a very good sandwich served fast, and a January 2026 couple stranded on a rainy Sunday found decent, fairly priced burgers, with a view from the outside tables that beats the interior.

But from 2025 onward the complaints pile up, and they are about the basics. Waits of 45 minutes for a burger in July 2026 and an hour for a soft drink and a coffee in August 2026; tired, disengaged staff and a rude waiter; dirty toilets, a terrace littered with food scraps and cigarette butts, and a smell of sewage in one account. Billing is questioned twice: a coffee charged at £2.20 against a £1.90 menu price with no sizes listed, and a Spanish party charged for a drink that never arrived. A delivery in February 2025 came stone cold.

The picture has changed since the diner opened. The 4.1 rests on that opening goodwill; the reviews of the past year run mostly one to three stars, with service and cleanliness the recurring failures rather than the food itself.
