Our review
The Venture Inn is a small Irish pub on Lynch's Lane, at the Casemates end of Main Street, scoring 3.0 on Tripadvisor from 119 reviews and 3.9 on Google from 404, for an Index of 3.70. We re-read the reviews on 6 September 2026; the newest is from 2 September. Tripadvisor has had one review since May 2025, so the recent picture is Google's, and it is warmer.
The 2026 Google reviews are almost all about the beer and the welcome: Caffrey's on tap for a taste of home, a very good Cornish ale, impeccable service, a great welcome from the barman, a cosy pub to while away a few hours. Food gets rarer but real praise, with bangers and mash and onion rings called top notch in August, and large, delicious hot dogs at more than reasonable prices in June from a couple who felt they were back in the UK.
The Tripadvisor side is where the split lives. The May 2025 lunch review sums up one half: friendly staff and a pretty pub, but toilets not clean at all and food that tasted only of oil. Older reviews add a man shouting that the pub was closed at half past eight on a Saturday, a landlord said to have made unpleasant remarks about the English, dirty toilets, high drink prices and the 'Vulture Inn' jibe. The other half name David and Belinda as the warmest hosts in Gibraltar.
Price is the one complaint that carries into 2026: a May Google reviewer says the same two drinks cost £10 one day and £14 the next, and a Spanish regular in March says it has gone downhill a lot despite good treatment and a good beer. Cleanliness has not been mentioned since May 2025, which is either an improvement or a quiet patch.
Come for a pint of something you cannot get on the square, a chat with the barman and, on the evidence of 2026, a plate of bangers and mash; ask the price of your round before you order it. Great place to drink
Great place to have a few pints. We have San Miguel on draught but they also served food. It is in a good location in Casemates Square to watch the world go by. Would highly recommend.more →

Typical English
We visited the Venture Inn for lunch. The staff is very friendly and the pub looks very pretty. However, the cleanliness, especially in the toilets is not good at all. The food was some of the worst I've eaten in a long time. Everything tastes just like oil and it has absolutely no salt on the food. For an (expensive) beer I would visit tmore →

Unfriendly locals
Befriended a local Gibraltarian asking how l was in Spanish, l replied in Spanish being polite. Then spoke to landlord calling me geery and not very nice things about the English, very racist, unfriendly man, have to say not the landlord. Not all locals are friendly.more →

RUDE MAN!!!!
We thought a visit to an Irish bar before going back to our accommodation was a good idea at 8:30 on a Saturday evening, how wrong we were. We walked in through an open door. The lady that served us was very friendly, as we sat down with our drinks, a man came from the behind the premises shouting that we could only have one drink as theymore →

We were looking for an authentic pub in Gibraltar, with real pub food and plenty of beer options. This is the place! It feels just like being in the UK!
