The Eliott is the town hotel, and it wins on the two things a town hotel can control: where it is, and what is on the roof.
It stands on Governor's Parade in the Old Town, a few streets off Main Street, with 130 rooms and a rooftop pool and solarium looking south down the Strait. The Rock Salt Restaurant and the Veranda Bar sit alongside it. The name honours General George Augustus Eliott, who commanded the garrison through the Great Siege of 1779 to 1783 and did not surrender.
It scores 8.6 from 651 reviews — level with the Sunborn and above the Rock Hotel, making it one of the two strongest hotels in Gibraltar on guest rating. Reviewers repeatedly note that it is quiet despite sitting in the middle of everything, which for a central hotel is the compliment that matters.
What it does not have is a view from the rooms. The Eliott is inland, and the Rock and the Strait belong to the roof rather than the windows. If a bay view from bed is the point of the trip, this is the wrong hotel and the Rock Hotel is the right one.
For everything else — walking to dinner, being in the town, swimming above it at the end of the day — it is the most sensible bed in Gibraltar.

About Town Area
Gibraltar's historic centre and one of its seven districts, running from Casemates Square at the north end down Main Street to Southport Gates. Casemates is the point most visitors reach first, on foot from the frontier or up from the cruise terminal, and its old barrack arches now hold the bar and restaurant terraces. Behind and above Main Street the lanes are residential, and between them they hold more short lets than anywhere else on the Rock. Central and walkable to almost everything; loud on the square at a weekend, noticeably quieter three streets back.
