Land of Empires: the Three Empires Experience

Fortress Attractions, a new Gibraltar company with a government agreement to restore and run the Moorish Castle and the Northern Defences, is building an immersive route through the Rock's three periods, 711 to 1462, 1462 to 1704, and 1704 to the present, sold as one journey rather than a set of separate sites. Land of Empires is the project's name and the name of its free companion app.

It is sold in three tiers. The Moorish Empire experience, about 30 minutes, is a self-guided walk along the Northern Defences park route, app-guided, taking in the Prince's Lines, the Queen's Lines, the battlement walls and the Tower of Homage. The Spanish Empire experience adds the Gibraltar Dungeons, an effects-led underground attraction about the Spanish garrison and its justice, which the operator says may not suit young children. The British Empire experience, about an hour, adds the Northern Defences tunnels with scenes, soundscapes and lighting on the Great Siege, Operation Pedestal, Operation Torch and the two world wars, and comes out at the Jungle Park. The Three Empires bundle joins all of it in about three hours and is pitched at cruise passengers.

Where it stands on 13 September 2026: the refurbished Tower of Homage opened on 14 September and is covered by the Nature Reserve ticket; the Dungeons are under construction and the operator says they will open soon; the Northern Defences Park, which carries the tunnel experience and the Jungle Park, is scheduled for early 2027. A short film recreating the Great Siege, shot in Prague with Czech Anglo Productions, is being made for the tunnels. No prices have been published for any tier and nothing is on sale. We will price and rate it the way we do everything else once there is something to measure.
