Our review

Cafetto Nostro is a small Italian cafe and bistro at Waterport Place, scoring 4.0 on Tripadvisor from 4 reviews and 4.1 on Google from 24, for an Index of 4.10. We re-read the reviews on 6 September 2026; the newest is from mid-August. Since our July read it has appeared on Google and passed our review threshold, so it is now scored.

The good reviews are about warmth as much as food. A cruise couple in August call it the highlight of their afternoon because of the server, Jan, who welcomed them like family and shared local tips over excellent coffee; others praise a friendly, professional chef who is also the server, fresh homemade food, cheap prices and a calm place to take a break. The smash burgers are fantastic and very affordable by two accounts, and the fish in the fish and chips got a nine out of ten.

The complaints cluster around pastry and value. A £4 pistachio croissant was hard, stale and barely filled; a ham and cheese croissant came cold, withered and without cheese for £2.95; the chips with the fish were dismissed as cheap frozen ones. A February delivery customer who loved the burgers in the first year found the Gladiatore missing its guacamole and parmesan, both burgers below average and a frozen, tasteless tiramisu, and says the place has fallen from what it was.

The May 2025 one-star, with its cold room, open fire-escape doors, slow service and odd focaccia fillings, still stands, and its point about the chef doubling as the only server is echoed kindly by a 2025 Google reviewer who called it a one-man show. Fifteen reviews with text is enough to see a pattern, not enough to be sure of it.

Dont bother.
Cold. The doors (which is actually the fire escape to the building are always wide open) It was a cold day and blowing through and they could not be closed. There are other doors to the entrance foyer of the building and though they could be opened they were not much used. Inane music . There was a Youtube travel video of Italy or somewhemore →

Great tasty food
Great food very good price. Has become one of my favourite places for lunch when visiting Gibraltar. The burger so tasty and definitely so much better than anywhere else. Good for any top restaurant.more →

What a wonderful little gem! My husband and I stopped in for a coffee while making our way back to our cruise ship, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our afternoon in Gibraltar. Had the fish and chip's I give the fish 9/10 the chips 0/10 when are these people going to learn if I want cheap frozen chips I will buy them from the supermarket if this order had come with real chips then for the price it would have been a 10/10 all round. 100% won't order again.more →
