Our review

Casa Pepe is a traditional Spanish fish restaurant on the water at Queensway Quay Marina: 3.9 on Tripadvisor from 223 reviews, 4.0 on Google from 166, and an Index of 4.00. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026 and run to 1 September. The pattern from July holds: the cooking wins loyalty, and everything around getting served pulls the score down.

The loyalty is unusual. Two couples say they plan their Gibraltar trips around Casa Pepe's opening days and eat nowhere else, and one lists a typical evening: fried anchovies, Manchego, octopus a la gallega, pig cheeks, clams, beef 'Don Pepe', a bottle of house red and Baileys, around £120 for two. A May 2026 return visit found John Dory with garlic and dorado with clams in cream as good as the first time; the cod pil pil, stuffed squid, grilled artichokes and the paella, when it comes, all get praised, and a family sent by a recommendation in The Times called their August 2026 wedding-day meal perfect. Pedro is named for his suggestions, the wine list runs from reasonable to dear, and a waterside table under the canopy is worth booking.

The trouble is access and welcome. On 1 September 2026 two separate Spanish parties were turned away at three o'clock, told the kitchen had closed an hour before the posted time. A booking for seven found the kitchen not open until 7.30, a solo diner was refused a table with four reserved signs in an otherwise empty room, and another was refused a sunny table for the same reason. Paella is discouraged or refused outright more than once, one party was told there had been no duck for three months, and a March 2026 couple felt the warmth went to Spanish and local tables while they chased for wine, the bill and any acknowledgment.

The food is not flawless either: a chalky paella, an overcooked cod that tasted old in April 2026, a salty fish soup, and hot bread rolls at £6.40 for four. One June 2025 reviewer says a black paella made them ill, a single unverified account.

Come for Spanish fish and shellfish its regulars will not swap for anywhere in Gibraltar, booking a waterside table and arriving well inside the kitchen hours; go in knowing the reception can be cold if you are not known, that off-menu refusals are common, and that solo diners have been turned away. Delicious - our 2nd visit as good as the first
Delicious food in a traditional restaurant. We had the artichokes to share and the John Dory with garlic and the sublime Dorado with clams in a cream sauce. Perfect 😋more →

Great lunch stop.
Located in old harbour. Stopped for late lunch whilst walking through the harbour area. DON’T GO THERE!!!
We booked Casa Pepe in recommendation from some friends who had lived in Gibraltar until recently. When we arrived we were shown to a table and it all went downhill from then on. No wine list so I just ordered a glass of red and my husband a beer. The wine was fine. The waiter then went through the specials and we ordered a large share stmore →

Our favourite in Gibraltar
We plan our trips to Gib around Casa Pepe's opening days as we like it so much! We only dine here as the food is so good. The welcome from the staff and the waterside tables are also part of the attraction. We enjoyed fried anchovies, Manchego cheese, octopus a la Gallega, pigs cheeks, salmon, clams and beef 'Don Pepe'. Made reservations for seven and were informed on arrival the kitchen didn’t open until 7:30. Two good waiters, but one very rude who kept rushing our choices saying the restaurant was full that night though we were the first and only ones there.
