Our review
El Pulpero is a small Spanish grill in Ocean Village, on the Waterport Road side. It is not on Tripadvisor; on Google it scores 4.7 from 62 reviews, and the Index is 4.60. We re-read the reviews on 6 September 2026, thirteen with text, the newest from August 2026.
Despite the name, the reviews are about meat. Summer 2026 brought a run of five-star notes on fresh barbecued meat, 'la parrilla', and superb steak, with staff called incredible; an Italian visitor in May 2026 described an abundant mixed grill of prime meat with good vegetables, served in Spanish. Portions are called big and generous throughout, and one reviewer adds that the outside tables are dog-friendly.
A thoughtful December 2025 review sets the terms: enough food to feed a crew, everything fresh, a bit of a wait that is worth it, and prices higher than just across the border. An April 2025 visitor notes it is cash only. The one culinary quibble, from June 2024, is an ibérico secreto cooked well done and not rested, served dry with a warm beer.
The sharp dissent is a pair of one-star reviews from April 2025. A takeaway for £35 brought seven dry prawns at £11.95 and a small chorizo at £6, with the reviewer asking whether the owners had changed; another party found £30 did not feed two and the food salty. Nothing since repeats it, and the 2026 reviews are uniformly good.
