Our review

El Kasbah is a Moroccan restaurant on Castle Street, down a few steps off the climb from Main Street. It now has a Tripadvisor listing at 4.7 from 50 reviews, alongside 4.7 on Google from 305, so the two sources agree exactly and the Index sits at 4.70. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026 and the newest was written the day before, so the picture is current.

Lamb tagine is the dish that carries the place, named again and again on both sites, with the mezze platter, arayes, pinchitos, couscous, kofta tagine, a seafood pastilla and a moussaka one wife called the best she had eaten all following behind. Smaller touches recur too: lemon and mint infused water, mint tea, a pistachio cheesecake, chocolate dates and well-made whisky sours. It is halal, one Spanish reviewer notes gluten-free and lactose-free options, and breakfast is served.

Reviewers describe a small room full of art with a sense of history, and a family business whose staff are named with real warmth: Jaz and Zak, Emma, Will and Christina all appear. The music night on the steps, held yearly with local artists, drew one August visitor who came just for that. The entrance is easy to walk past, and more than one reviewer says they would never have found it without a recommendation.

The dissent is more frequent than the score suggests and it has sharpened in 2026. Two Tripadvisor reviewers in April and July 2026 found the tagines thin, the couscous pre-mixed and the whole thing poor value, one of them describing both tagines as the same sauce with different garnish. On Google an August table found the briouats salty, the pastillas mushy, a single waiter running the room and neighbours waiting forty minutes for a drink; another had cold food; and the newest review, in September, docks points for slow service in a half-empty room and no bottled water. Prices, several note, are English rather than Andalusian.

Come for lamb tagine, mezze and a warm, family-run room a couple of streets off the tourist run, and allow time rather than expecting speed; go in knowing that a run of 2026 reviews describe slow service and a kitchen that does not always deliver the depth the menu promises. An outstanding gem worth a little stroll up a backstreet
A lovely warm welcome from Jaz and Zak. A small but inviting dining room, a menu full of the things you would expect, plus a few lovely surprises, particularly in the cocktail department. Great hidden gem 💎
Came here last night off a recommendation from a family member and was not disappointed at all. The service was amazing (Emma served us), she helped us with our choices (we chose in the end the mezze platter, arayes and pinchitos which were delicious and full of flavour and the wine was lovely too. What a treat- don't miss this little gem
This restaurant is a couple of streets back from main st however its worth spending time finding it as you will be in for a treat. We dined as a couple and shared Lamb tagine, cous cous , a sharing platter with bread and a bottle of house white. Absolutely everything was delicious and very decent portions. Very disappointing Moroccan meal
We ordered both the chicken tajine and the lamb tajine, but neither resembled the rich, aromatic dishes we expected. Each consisted essentially of a piece of roasted meat sitting in a thin broth, accompanied by a small portion of bland paste. Food is good as my ex-husband's (he was Moroccan)
We ate here last night. First I was an hour late – I did let them know – and they still had a table inside for me with my name on it. El Kasbah has such a beautiful atmosphere — the art throughout the restaurant gives it a really pleasant, warm vibe, and you can tell this is a place with a lot of history behind it.
