Our review

The Fox & Hounds is a tiny traditional pub on Cornwall's Lane, up a steep side turning off Main Street. It holds 5.0 on Tripadvisor from 10 reviews and 4.8 on Google from 26, which gives an Index of 4.70. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026; the newest Google review was posted that day and the newest Tripadvisor review is from April 2026.

This is a drinking pub, and the reviews are about the welcome rather than a menu; one reviewer admits they do not know whether it serves food, and nobody mentions eating. Charlotte and Ben, the owners, are named repeatedly, along with Eddy behind the bar, and visitor after visitor describes popping in for one and staying for hours because the locals pulled them into the conversation. It is one of the few bars in town where reviewers say that happened.

The practical picture is consistent: a pool table, darts, two televisions showing football and rugby, quiz nights, a dog-friendly door, and a room described as clean, which one reviewer says is more than most pubs here can claim. The beer is a mix of Spanish and English, with Alhambra and Stella named, though the choice on tap is limited. Prices were called cheaper than other pubs through 2025, while the September 2026 review calls them average.

The honest limits are size and the approach. It is very small, with a handful of high and low seats and one toilet in the gents, and the lane up to it has no pavement and carries traffic. Warm welcome
