Our review

IPA Beer Garden is a British-style pub with a back terrace on North Pavilion Road, on the way up towards the Rock. It has 4.5 on Tripadvisor from 2 reviews and 4.4 on Google from 54, and the Index puts it at 4.40. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026; the newest substantive one is from March 2026, since a July 2026 one-star is a one-word football chant and is discounted.

The best accounts describe a quiet, unpretentious local with kind service and good, substantial food, including Spanish dishes one visitor had not seen elsewhere in town, eaten on a sunny little terrace out the back. It has a police history that one reviewer found worth the visit in itself. The two Tripadvisor reviews praise a €10 eat-all-you-want buffet lunch near Christmas 2024 and, under new owners in 2023, a £20 barbecue of salads, burgers, chorizo and chicken served at the table rather than queued for.

The dissent is about the kitchen and it is recent. A February 2026 reviewer found the fries undercooked and soggy, the burger like a school canteen's and the fish evidently from frozen; a German visitor in August 2025 describes a frozen patty, stale buns, raw chips and a waitress who spoke no English and was unfriendly. So the everyday pub food can be poor even if the events are good.

A day trip to Gibraltar
Avery non descript establishment. Popped in for a drink and ended up having a buffet lunch. Eat as much as you wanted on that day for €10 as it was close to Xmas and many businesses were closed. The food was very tasty and the beers were very cold. Ideal indoor outdoor setting for casual dining.more →

Best BBQ In A While!!!!
The first BBQ being held by the new owners. Amazing is the only way I can describe it. Food was delicious, very tasty and too much food in my honest opinion. £20 Per person for the quality and amount you get served is in this day and age unbelievable. It's the only BBQ I have ever gone to where you are served at your table and you do not more →
