Our review

Number 5 Bistro is a small, chef-led Italian and French bistro at 5 Governor's Parade, open since around the end of 2025 by one reviewer's account. It scores 5.0 on Tripadvisor from a single review and 4.7 on Google from 50, and the Index, resting mainly on that Google base, puts it at 4.6. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest is from the day before, so the picture is fresh.

The steak is the dish. Review after review calls it the best in Gibraltar, cooked exactly right without being asked, and the ribeye, the fillet, a chicken piccata and the pasta all draw the same language. The menu is short and reviewers are told to let the chef recommend; one guest was mixed a cocktail that was not on the menu, and a small wedding party was hosted with a chalked welcome outside.

The hosts are the other half of it. The owners, named as Geoff (spelled Jeff by some) and Sean and described as a husband-and-wife team, are repeatedly said to make guests feel like old friends, and several people booked again within days. It is intimate, personal even for a table of six, and one reviewer calls it costly but well worth it.

Two caveats. The wine is thin: no wine list, seemingly one bottle of each, and one reviewer docked a star for it. And there is one sharp August 2026 one-star from a party of six who say the front-of-house lady looked them over and turned them away without explanation; it stands alone against a run of praise, but it is recent.

A home away from home. Jeff and his wife hosted us like no one else has done. We felt like old friends. They were absolutely fabulous. The food was exquisite, beautifully flavoured and perfectly cooked. We had the steak. They didn't even ask how I wanted it cooked because they just did it perfectly.
