Our review

The GastroBar is the restaurant aboard the Sunborn, the yacht hotel moored at Ocean Village: 4.2 on Tripadvisor from 22 reviews, 4.5 on Google from 64, and an Index of 4.40. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and they run to late August. As before, they blur across the ship's outlets, with the Barbary bar and the top-floor cocktail lounge turning up on this page, so read it as the aboard-ship picture.

Service is what people write about, and they write names: Carlos and Ingrid, Deililam, Max and Vicky in the cocktail lounge, Alex in the Barbary bar, Soraya, Crystal in the restaurant, Jolanta and Souren for a company event. A group of 24 in May 2026 found the planning seamless and the night impeccable, and anniversary and birthday lunches are described as special. Garlic shrimp, a poke bowl, the fish and chips and a lamb that fell off the bone are the dishes praised, and portions are big: one cheese-sticks starter fed two.

The kitchen is where it wobbles, and the accounts are specific. A May 2026 anniversary dinner ended at the starter when the tuna tartare arrived grey and, the reviewer says, clearly off; it was taken off the bill. A December 2025 return visit after a raw-chicken Caesar the previous August brought cold starters, a two-hour wait for mains and a 12.5 per cent service charge on a £200 bill. Others log a fast-food steak, a bony sea bass, an unseasoned catch of the day, a dry chicken and basic pizzas for the price: individual accounts against a broadly happy run, but enough of them to matter.

Smaller notes. Every beef and chicken dish is halal, which one January 2026 reviewer wished had been flagged, guests find parts of the ship tired and in need of a refit, the bathroom area too open, and the evenings short on atmosphere. A July 2026 bar visit records rude staff, a 30-minute wait for two cocktails and an overcharge, and a German reviewer found the food very good but the service cool.

Come for a celebration or a drink with marina views, where the named staff and the event handling are the strong suit, and order simply; go in knowing that the cooking has let several reviewers down badly in the last year and that a service charge may be added. Sunborn - Cocktail Lounge
Spent the evening in the cocktail lounge on the top floor and it was a real treat. The poke bowl was fantastic and the cocktails were excellent — well made and worth the trip up on their own. Had a fabulous time, but I don't feel like it's a 5 star experience. The venue lacks evening atmosphere. The Friday night pool party had a great vibe - maybe needs a live singer/tribute act so that it offers something other than the karaoke that tge outside bars offer. DO NOT like the openess of the toilet/bathroom area!! No Privacy whatsmore →

We have just returned from our stay at Sunborn and overall really enjoyed our time there. The hotel itself is beautiful, the room was comfortable, always cleaned to a high standard, and the service was good. We especially enjoyed dinner in the Gastrobar, which was lovely.
