Our review

The Muscle Bakery is a gluten-free, protein-led bakery and sandwich shop in Cornwall's Centre, a block off Main Street, with tables in the courtyard outside. It was a Google-only listing until today; its Tripadvisor page was found and attached on 6 September 2026, so Tripadvisor now counts alongside Google. It stands at a straight 5 from 20 Tripadvisor reviews and 4.7 from 43 on Google, for an Index of 4.70. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest is from June.

Everything is gluten-free, and much of it is also dairy-free, sugar-free or vegan, which is why people with intolerances write about it with such relief. Coeliacs stock up on the bars to take home and freeze; one Tripadvisor reviewer found three gluten-free and dairy-free cakes to choose from and called the carrot and walnut cakes moist and scrumptious. Kinder donuts, sweet potato blondies, muscle bars, waffles and cheesecakes are the sweet names that recur, and the savoury side, a torta patata fit, chickpea stew and a sandwich menu with several bread types, gets its own praise.

The owner, Elke, is named warmly across the years, and the staff are called helpful, informative and empathetic about working out what someone can eat. The bakery also makes celebration cakes: a wedding cake ordered from the UK for a Gibraltar wedding, and birthday cakes with a banana jam filling, both described as delicious and handled easily.

One review carries more weight than its single star suggests. In March 2026 a lactose-intolerant customer was told a brownie contained no gluten or lactose, ate it, and reacted badly; the reviewer notes that some products do contain lactose. Fantastic Wedding Cake
The bakery made our daughter's wedding cake for her marriage in Gibraltar. From the outset they were so helpful and made the whole process of ordering from the UK so easy. Best gluten free & dairy free cake by miles!!!!
I’d give the team 10 stars if I could, so friendly and helpful, they are amazing. I found them completely by chance looking for something gluten and dairy free to have with my tea. Delicious goodness for those with Food Intolerances and Allergies

If you have intolerance to lactose do not trust their word. After indicating that I could not have gluten nor lactose, the lady said their brownies did not have those ingredients….so I bought one and ate it thinking it was safe. Here I am now in full blown lactose intolerance reaction. Very bad experience! Some of their foods do contain lmore →
