Our review

The Queen's Picturehouse & Eatery sits in a corner of the ground floor at Casemates Square, themed on a vanished Gibraltar cinema and with a small screening room attached. It holds 4.5 on Tripadvisor from 40 reviews and 4.6 on Google from 167, an Index of 4.60. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest is from this month.

The room is still what reviewers reach for first: beautifully decorated inside and out, secluded from the crush of the square, and one regular calls it the only aesthetically pleasing place in Gibraltar. It is well used for occasions. A wedding party in July 2026 praised the menu, the pace and the staff's patience while they lingered over speeches, a communion for 30 and a 40th birthday for 75 with the cinema hired were both rated ten out of ten, and Robyn is named as the planner. Rebecca, Jo, Bradley and Alicja are named for service, and the warm olives remain the tip to wait for.

The food is praised more often than not: a roast dinner called stunning, the duck and a duck salad, cod cooked to perfection, good coffee, and prices described as moderate. But the failures are specific and not trivial. A June 2026 reviewer was served fish and chips with raw batter inside, sent back and refried twice with no change, and was told 'this is how we do it' rather than given an apology. A March 2026 dinner had watery cod, a stone-cold rosada fillet, a wrong drinks order and a bill presented unasked while the till was closed around them.

Service pace and hours are the other thread. A German couple left after an hour with one contact from staff, a Chinese-language reviewer found the food slow to arrive and rather too many insects about, and one visitor found it shut at eight when the listed hours said midnight. Against a 40-review Tripadvisor sample, these are a meaningful minority.

Come for the most characterful room on Casemates Square, for a party or a wedding meal, or for a drink and the olives. Go in knowing the kitchen has produced some poor plates in 2026 and that complaints have not always been met well. I was today at The Queens for the first time. I had an amazing spanish waitress called Rebecca, who recommended us dishes from the menu and was welcoming & helpful throughout the whole meal. Extremely disappointing — raw batter and no apology
I went in hoping for a nostalgic fish & chips experience after seeing good reviews, but this visit was awful. The batter was raw inside and the fish itself had an odd, unidentifiable texture — it didn’t resemble any fish I’ve had before. They took it back and refried it twice, and each time it was the same. A promising nice night's dining ruined.
The restaurant lacks for nothing in terms of ambiance. The main dinner Hall is small but well appointed, the outside area is adequate and the attached screening room (the theme of the restaurant is a long-vanished Gibraltar Cinema) is an interesting addition.
