Our review

The Wembley Bar is a small local on Scud Hill, up the slope from Main Street, and it is a pub rather than a place to eat. It holds 3.5 on Tripadvisor from 20 reviews and 4.5 on Google from 74, for an Index of 4.30. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026; the newest Google review is from 4 September and the newest Tripadvisor review from August.

The gap between the two scores has a simple explanation. Most Tripadvisor reviews are from 2016 to 2018 and describe a scruffy room, an ancient gin optic and a deep clean overdue; Google is recent and describes a bar that has been fully refurbished, "nothing like the photos", with a welcoming man behind the bar and the football on. Regulars of many years confirmed the makeover in late 2025 and were delighted by it.

What has not changed is the character. Reviewers call it the most British pub in Gibraltar, a proper local where everyone says hello, with good prices, a wide choice of beers, a quiz on the blackboard, and old soldiers from South Barracks coming back decades later to find their memories intact. It sits on a regular bus route and makes a natural rest on the walk towards Europa Point.

The dissent is small but current. An August 2026 reviewer found it tiny, full of heavy drinkers, closing at midnight with staff turning people out from 11:45; another arrived at the advertised 11am opening to find it shut until noon. Food barely features, one 2017 reviewer praising it and a 2016 one saying there was none.

Come for a cold, well-priced pint among locals in a bar that has been smartened up without losing itself, ideally as a stop on the climb south. Do not come to eat, and check the hours before making the walk. Nobody from Gibraltar Index has drunk here; this write-up is drawn from the reviews.

You get the odd nice drinker but plenty of drinkers who drink a lot
Tiny watering hole on scud hill the bottom section has been redecorated but is small and closes at midnight. Although staff seem keen to shut and start throwing the odd person in the bar out at 11:45more →

Relaxed. Friendly. Local.
Great little spot in Gibraltar! The Wembley Bar has a really cosy and friendly atmosphere that makes you feel welcome straight away. It’s the perfect place if you want to relax, enjoy a quiet drink, and escape the busy bars. They also have a great variety of beers, so there’s always something new to try. What a difference ☺️
We’ve been coming to this bar for a number of years when we’ve visited gib it’s always been a friendly bar but very scruffy today we’ve popped in and can’t believe it it’s been refurbished and looks fabulous ☺️more →

Great friendly place

A Little Gem
We stopped in this unassuming pub as we both needed a rest stop walking from the Gibraltar lift on our way to Europa point. What a little gem. It is not glitz and glam at all but the bar keep and the customers were friendly and welcoming. The bar keep also gave us direction for a more scenic walk to Bistro point. Cheers, mate!more →

It was advertised to open at 11am but when we got there it didn't open untill 12pm so i cant rate it cos it was closed but it was brilliant in 1986 so i will give it 5 stars for back in 1986more →
