Our review

Aquaterra is a small Spanish-leaning restaurant at the entrance to Main Street beside the taxi rank, a step off Grand Casemates Square. It holds 4.9 on Tripadvisor from 1,236 reviews and 4.8 on Google from 1,269, which gives an Index of 4.80 on one of the deepest review bases in Gibraltar. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026 and the newest were posted that week.

The late-summer reviews name the food dish by dish. Rib eye and fillet steaks, pork cheek, an 850g dry-aged steak shared between two, foie gras with apple compote, octopus on a cauliflower purée served on an aquatic plate, duck breast, gambas pil pil and prawn bao buns all appear, and the apple pie in its apple-shaped dish is the dessert people mention, when it has not sold out. Presentation is part of the fun: cocktails such as the Crazy Monkey arrive in novelty containers, and a cheese platter drew its own photograph.

Value is still the first thing reviewers reach for, in English, Spanish, German and Polish alike: 'fair prices for the quality', a huge lemon mousse for £3.50, and honest pricing set against what one reviewer calls the tourist-trap eateries on the square. Service is the other constant, with Ariana, also written Ariadna, and William named in September 2026 as they were in July, and a problem with a dessert replaced within minutes and taken off the bill.

The caveats are the ones the room imposes. It fills, so booking is advised in several languages, and walk-ins without a reservation waited twenty minutes for an inside table with the air conditioning. One Google three-star at the end of August found the food only slightly above average and a medium-rare steak on the tough side, which is the only recent dissent.

Aquaterra lovely meal polite staff
Great location just off the main casemates square area, we hadn't made a reservation but the friendly staff sorted a table for two we ordered two cocktails to start with a pina colada and a crazy monkey both came in fun containers and were amazing they took our food order and we didn't wait long before our rib eye steaks came out cooked tmore →

AMAZING!!
We visited this restaurant twice during our visit, the first time we just had cocktails sitting outside people watching. All the 4 cocktails we had all tasted superb & are presented in really funky glasses, the cheeky monkey was my favourite. Excellent ingredients presented with modesty
A simple yet delightful dining room. An oasis amongst the other awful tourist trap eateries in the square. Polite, knowledgeable staff and good of obvious quality in terms of ingredients and preparation and service. A top eatery that is easily in the top 3 on the peninsula.more →
