Our review

Chatzz is a small tapas bar in the vaults on Chatham Counterguard, just off the main square. It holds 4.8 on Tripadvisor from 117 reviews and 4.3 on Google from 65, which sets the Index at 4.60 and keeps it among the better-rated places in the town centre. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest are from late August, so the picture is current.

The pitch has not changed: generous tapas at prices reviewers keep calling low for the quality, with one August visitor naming it the best value for money in Gibraltar. The dishes people name are broad rather than repetitive this time round: an Iberian sirloin recommended by Manuel, fillet slices in pepper sauce, ribs in barbecue sauce, Moroccan meatballs, lamb pinchitos, a goat's cheese salad, fish and chips, and a bao bun. One couple note the staff are open about portion size, so you can order to suit rather than guess.

Service is where the names come out. Manuel is thanked in review after review on both sites, Rosalía and Rócio alongside him, and the chef Pedro gets a shout of his own. A pregnant diner describes being steered carefully through the menu, and one afternoon table was brought two shots on the house with the bill. Several reviewers say they will return before they have paid.

Google is cooler than Tripadvisor, and the gap is about pace rather than food. An August 2026 visitor waited about an hour for food when the room was not busy, a June regular waited forty minutes for starters in an empty room and found the food below what they remembered, and a May review on Tripadvisor scores the service two stars for a waiter who never looked up. May look quiet but give it a go, you will be pleasently surprised
The place nextdoor looked busy and noisy, my husband and I just wanted to have a relaxing tapas and jug of sangria so we decided to give Chatzz a try. So glad we did. It was relaxing with great choice of tapas and amazing sangria. Felt like the ideal place to go to have a chat whilst eating, drinking and enjoying some company. Reasonably more →

Highly recommended to have dinner here
Wonderful people. Everything clean, pleasant, food made with care and highly recommended! We ate a sirloin with mustard that was frankly good. Fried chicken perfectly fried, some ribs with barbecue sauce. Perfect as well. And a crunchy salad, the lettuce and tomato well-dressed, phenomenalmore →

Great tapas bar, good value
Lovely local tapas bar, but they are flexible and transparent about portion size so you can please yourself! We had fish and chips and Moroccan meatballs, both good but the meatballs were really meaty and tasty. Good friendly service and food was quick and hot. Would definitely eat here again.more →

10/10 place to eat. Everything was very delicious. Cool, quiet and very cozy.
Manuel and Rosalía were charming. We asked them for a suggestion because of my pregnancy and they advised us very well. The portions are huge, good quantity and value for money. We really liked the pepper veal and the bao bun. We hope to return soon.more →
