Café Louis

Café Louis is a coffee shop and bakery at 184 Main Street, next to the Cathedral of St Mary the Crowned. It is not on Tripadvisor; on Google it scores 4.4 from 149 reviews, up from 133 in July, and the Index is 4.40 on Google alone. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest is from two days before.

The baking carries it. Waffles called amazing, lovely cakes, delicious bread, and pastries including a Nutella croissant and an almond croissant all get warm mentions. Service is mostly praised as friendly and prompt, with two staff, Eva and Raquel, named by one visitor and another thanking the two women working a Saturday morning in July.

Its position is part of the appeal: a busy stretch of Main Street with constant passing trade, where a café con leche costs £2.60 and a reviewer recommends simply sitting and watching Gibraltar go by.

The coffee and the service both have an off side. Coffee is called excellent by some and merely ok by others, and one two-star review from July 2026 lists overpriced food, semi-skimmed as the only milk, a loose lid that spilled the coffee with no replacement offered, and staff shouting over each other. It is one review among many, but the complaints are specific.
