Our review

Copacabana is an old, plain café-bar at 241 Main Street, close to the town centre. It scores 3.3 on Tripadvisor from 78 reviews and a kinder 3.9 on Google from 198, and the Index, which weighs both, puts it at 3.8. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the two platforms still tell noticeably different stories.

Breakfast is the thing its defenders keep coming back to. The full English is called the best in Gibraltar by more than one reviewer, surprised that something so cheap arrived so complete, and the poached eggs on toast, the bacon and egg baguette and the toast and coffee all get warm mentions. It is cheap, close to the two cathedrals, dog friendly, open most mornings but closed on Sunday, and at its best the service is fast and happy to do off-menu requests.

The complaints are specific. The old grievance was the bill not matching the board or menu, with drinks and dishes charged above the displayed price; those reports run from 2022 to March 2024 and have gone quiet since, so the picture has shifted. What has replaced them in 2026 is slower service (a sausage sandwich taking 45 minutes in March, toast that never arrived in November 2025), a dirty table and a broken hand dryer in January, and two parties who felt thrown out, one for eating a takeaway at an outside table, one in June 2026 for drinking their own bottled water.

Lunch beyond the breakfast menu divides people. A Czech and a Polish reviewer in May 2026 found the chips, burgers and nuggets poor, though the beer and the waiter got a good word, while an earlier visitor praised a spinach and prawn salad and an entrecôte, and the fish and chips and the lemon chicken tagine both have fans. One tagine served at the end of the day was mostly couscous.

Come for a cheap, generous cooked breakfast on Main Street, ideally in the morning when the place is at its best; treat the lunch menu with more caution and check the bill, even though the overcharging reports have faded. Must be the very best breakfast in Gibraltar.
Today I thought we would try the Full English Breakfast (it looked too cheap but decided to try anyway) and what a surprise!! Full Enlish meant ´FULL¨and beautifully served. I have to say it was a lovely surprise and must be the best breakfast in Gibraltar.more →

The very best Poached Eggs on Toast.
Our first stop in the morning for breakfast. Fast and friendly and if it's not on the menu, just ask, nothing is too much trouble . Needless to say it comes highly recommended.more →

Won't be Going Back - Ever
I went here about 5 years ago and was very disappointed by the service. But thought I'd give it another go. Guess what, I was very disappointed with the service AGAIN. I ordered a coffee and some toast. The coffee came and I drank it. After waiting far too long for the toast to appear I decided to pay for the coffee and leave. I don't thimore →

Not particularly quaint place but friendly staff, nice and fast. Fair but honest food quality. Great for a quick lunch without spending a capital. There is not a wide choice nearby so I recommend you go there.more →

I’d give zero stars if I could. We were about to order food (two out of the four of us already had beer) and essentially got kicked out for one of us drinking from our own bottled water. Just paid the drinks and left - never coming backmore →
