Our review

Corks is a café-restaurant at 79 Irish Town, the quiet street behind Main Street, and by one reviewer's account a venue established for around forty years. It scores 4.1 on Tripadvisor from 97 reviews and 4.5 on Google from 114, and the Index, weighing both, puts it at 4.3. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest is from late August.

It is a locals' place with a big repeat following, strongest at breakfast and lunch: an extensive breakfast menu with vegetarian, gluten-free, yoghurt and churros options, pancakes with Nutella and banana, brunches one regular calls the best, burgers with chips cooked to perfection, and a daily specials board people come for, with chicken cordon bleu, lamb brochette and duck noodles named. The room is cosy, the coffee good and the staff repeatedly called friendly and attentive.

It also does events. A March 2026 party booking was praised for the organisation, with Charlene named for the run-up, the food and a DJ, and that day brought six five-star Google reviews in all, most likely from guests, which we have weighed accordingly. Older reviews mention a wedding reception and a school reunion held there.

Price is the recurring caveat. Regulars noted years ago that lunch had crept to £13.95 and salads to £15.95, with vegetables offered as if included and then charged at £4.95, and an August 2024 reviewer was outraged by £6 for toast with tomato and a quarter avocado. Service can be slow, with a 50-minute wait on a business lunch and a French visitor noting a long wait in May 2026; one reviewer was turned away despite a booking because of a private event, another was told nothing was gluten free despite the menu labels.

Lovely hidden gem
This is a lovely hidden gem hidden in the back streets. We had the burgers, these were full of flavour and the bacon really adds to the note of the food. Chips cooked to perfection. We had 3 cleared plates. Lovely staff, beautiful inside. We sat outside so we could vape. Not a busy street and nicely tucked away. Thank you to the staff agamore →

Absolute theft.
Amazing, a pelayo bread toast with some tomato spread and 1/4 avocado, £6??? Seriously, 6 pounds???????? Impressive, I find it a ridiculous portion for the price you charge. I am not going back, we have ordered 17 breakfasts and I find it absolutely ridiculous, I am very disappointed. I won't ask for anything again.more →

Long wait and disinterested staff
The staff are so disinterested in their customers. You have to keep going and asking for drinks. Food took 50 minutes and had to keep chasing A quick lunch turned into a lengthy affair. Won’t come again on business lunchmore →

Noisy kids
Eat here every time I come over on holiday. The food is good with a great choice of dishes and specials and a lovely staff, but the one thing that lets down this place is the screaming kids and babies which the parents will do nothing about and customers have to endure. So give this place a miss if you want to hear and be heard by the peomore →
