Our review

Curry & Nigiri is a small, plain Indian and Japanese restaurant on City Mill Lane, a side alley off Main Street, that traded for years as Saffron. It holds 4.8 on Tripadvisor from 184 reviews and 4.8 on Google from 712, which gives an Index of 4.80. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026; the newest Google reviews are from early September and the newest Tripadvisor review is from May 2026.

The pattern holds: reviewers warn you about the look, then tell you the food is among the best in Gibraltar. Butter chicken is called the best twice in one summer, the onion bhajis are compared favourably with expensive restaurants back home, and palak paneer, lamb keema matar, aloo palak, lamb bhuna and a cheese garlic naan are all named. The Japanese side gets real orders too: nigiri and sashimi platters, vegetable and tofu tempura rolls, and prawns presented in a bamboo steamer.

Prices are the other half: one couple paid £30.80 for two lamb curries, garlic naan, rice and drinks, and value comes up in Spanish, German and Polish reviews alike. Everything is cooked to order in an open kitchen you can see into, so there can be a wait, and the same customers have been coming for over ten years.

The room is the caveat and the newest reviews add to it: plastic chairs and a basic interior, very hot inside in summer, and one Polish reviewer felt hygiene could be better. The one recent one-star is about a request for no coriander being ignored on every plate with no remedy offered, and a January 2025 three-star found only the samosas exceptional.

Come for excellent, honestly priced curry and a sushi menu that people actually order, and ignore the decor as everyone tells you to; in high summer it will be hot inside, and dish tweaks may not stick. Nobody from Gibraltar Index has eaten here, and this write-up is built from the reviews.

Small / kinda run down place .. so in Monday is this fine dining, but it’s a fair price, pretty quick, and very very nice food … Again very friendly, good menu, and the food it top rate …. And you can see right into the kitchen … just ignore the decor ..more →

We had a good curry meal here tonight. Been using this place for over ten years when it was called Saffron. Basic inside with an open kitchen so you can see the food being prepared. £30.80 got us two Lamb Curries/Garlic Nan/Rice accompanied by large bottle of water and an ice tea. Best Curry in Gibraltar
Had a beautiful meal here with my family. Lovely food. This is somewhat of a hidden gem as it is a small place in a side street off Main Street. But definitely one of the best Curry houses in Gibraltar. Excellent and friendly service. Beautifully cooked food. Thoroughly recommend.more →

The onion bajees. Ive had onion bhajees in expensive Indian restaurants back home. Those restaurants could not hope to match the starters here, never mind main courses I was told and indeed saw the bhajees being freshly made And I'm vegetarian.
