Fern's Curry Sushi and Indo Chinese Wok

Fern's is a small restaurant on Parliament Lane, down a side alley in the town centre, that runs curries, made-to-order sushi and Indo-Chinese dishes off one very long menu. It holds a perfect 5.0 on Tripadvisor from 212 reviews and 4.7 on Google from 365, which gives an Index of 4.80. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest are from late August.

The curries remain the reason people come back, and the recent reviews name them: a jalfrezi with 'super naan and tons of rice', butter chicken, a coconut chicken curry, a masala chicken offered medium or strong, and a chicken tikka sizzle plate. The sushi side holds its own, with a tuna and avocado tartare topped with salmon roe drawing the most surprised praise, including a German reviewer who called it the best of their life. Portions are big enough that several people say they over-ordered, and a mango lassi is the recommended way to cool the spice.

Service is warm and personal: reviewers name Matilda and a Mrs Fernándes, along with the owner who came out for a chat and sent a Bailey's over on the house. A vegan and gluten-free diner was looked after with a dairy-free korma and an avocado roll they rated the best they had eaten, which fits the earlier reviews on dietary care.
