Our review

Khan's is a no-frills Indian restaurant at the Watergardens on Waterport Road, a few minutes' walk from Ocean Village: 3.9 on Tripadvisor from 66 reviews, 4.3 on Google from 247, and an Index of 4.20. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026; the newest Google review is from August 2026 and the newest on Tripadvisor from November 2025.

The fans are emphatic: 'best Indian outside the subcontinent', 'best curry in Gibraltar by a curry mile', 'best butter chicken in the world', and a June 2026 reviewer who has tried every Indian restaurant in Gibraltar and puts this first. Portions are enormous, a chicken tikka running to ten pieces, and prices low: £18.50 to £20 for a two-dish lunch with rice and naan in the older reviews, £36 for two with drinks. Tandoori chicken, rogan josh, madras, samosa, pakora and keema naan are the named orders, and a shawarma gets a mention too.

The owner is a large part of it. Reviewers describe him serving his own meal to late arrivals at midnight, reopening the kitchen for a party arriving after close, letting a stranded driver use the wifi to pay for parking, and reassuring people sheltering from a storm that they need not buy anything. You order at the counter, and the room is plain; reviewers get that out of the way first and then tell you not to mind.

The dissent is real and mostly on Google. An August 2026 reviewer found the service very slow and no difference between a karahi and a jalfrezi, with tandoori dishes 'more colour than taste'. A London diner of Asian background in October 2025 found it overcooked and dry and preferred the Moroccan places on the same street, a June 2025 reviewer found the biryani tasted only of salt, and one 2023 takeaway was mostly binned. One May 2025 reviewer calls the place extremely dirty while praising the food, one August 2025 review alleges bad meat, a single unverified account, and one review that reads as a rap lyric is discounted.

Come hungry for big, cheap plates of curry in a plain room, with the tandoori chicken and butter chicken the safe orders and an owner people remember; go in knowing that reviewers who know the cuisine well are split, and that it is out at the Watergardens rather than in the centre. Great food at reasonable prices
Excellent food - full of flavour and very reasonably priced. Probably the best Indian dishes that I’ve had outside of the sub Continent itself. Second time of visiting and is still consistently good. The decor may not be appealing to some, but I go to a restaurant for the food not the decor. Really recommended.more →

Good value and excellent flavours
Accidentally found this place which appeared to be more for locals than tourists. The front of house guy was very welcoming and we had a fantastic tasty meal at a very reasonable price. Well done khan's!more →

Our group loved it
This is a great find, we were drinking in a bar close by that didn't serve food so kept bringing back various snacks from here. We had a number of starters including samosa, pakora, keema naan, and a tandoori chicken curry. Everything was perfect and really tasty and well cooked. What a find.
Only stood outside today to get out of the rain ( tempestuous thunderstorm) got tempted by the lovely smells inside. Decided to have a snack but had the best chicken tandoori I have had anywhere in the UK. Hubby also had an amazing Rogan Josh. I have tried every Indian restaurant in Gibraltar, and Khan's is without a doubt my favorite. I visited twice recently and was blown away both times.
