Malak Baguette is a small kebab and Mediterranean takeaway counter on Parliament Lane, off Main Street, scoring 3.2 on Tripadvisor from 23 reviews and 3.0 on Google from 140, for an Index of 3.10. We re-read the reviews on 6 September 2026; the newest is from late August, and the Tripadvisor side has had nothing new since May 2025, so the current picture is mostly Google's.

The split we described before has not closed. The food is praised far more often than not: Moroccan and tandoori baguettes cooked fresh in front of you, a mixed grill and Moroccan steak regulars call a must, a huge plate for under eight euros by one account, and a shop that reviewers repeatedly describe as spotlessly clean and packed with locals at lunch. More than one Google reviewer compares the owner shouting 'next' to a Seinfeld episode and means it fondly.

The manner is the problem, and a few 2026 reviews go beyond brusque. Two Italian visitors in August describe being shouted at, served kebab meat in a bowl because there was no bread, and all four of the party being unwell afterwards, which is their claim and not something we can check. A Google Local Guide in July was charged £11.90 for a menu mix and two drinks, well above the listed prices, and advises checking the receipt. A May reviewer got a wrap instead of the salad she ordered and did not dare say so.

The practical points from the older reviews stand: it is a lunchtime operation, roughly ten to five and closed in the evening, it runs out of the popular marinations before closing, and the queue moves fast, so read the menu before you reach the front. The regulars who defend it say the same thing in different words: know what you want, say it quickly, and the food is worth it.

Come at lunchtime for a cheap, freshly grilled baguette or kebab if you can take a curt counter and are prepared to check your change; skip it if you want to be welcomed. Great kebab shop.
Excellent kebab shop, great service and the food is marvellous. Seems to be very popular with the locals for lunch. Only shame is it's not open in the evening as would be an excellent stop off point after a couple of drinks in the local bars.more →

Absolutely Brilliant !
Absolutely spotlessly clean place, tremendous food and 5 star Entertainment watching the owner be incredibly rude to customers and then serve them incredibly good street food. This place is worth visiting just for pure comedy.more →

Great fun on a tight budget.
A great little lunchtime stop - Super Mediterranean street food. A busy place, the ordering system seems chaotic, as it’s fast pace - but it’s a well organised machine and all the shouting of orders and ‘next’ (in the queue) adds to the street food experience.more →

Servizio e cibo pessimo! Il cuoco urla ai clienti, non ha neanche una piadina per il kebab e ci ha dato una ciotola col contenuto del kebab, la carne è esageratamente speziata, immangiabile, siamo stati tutti male dopo questo pranzo! Very disappointing experience at Malek Takeaway. I ordered the 'menu mix' along with two drinks, and was charged £11.90, which is significantly higher than the actual prices listed on their menu.
