Mantra — Eastern Lounge

Mantra is an Indian and Asian restaurant and cocktail bar on Chatham Counterguard. It is not on Tripadvisor; on Google it scores 4.5 from 10 reviews, under the fifteen needed, so it is listed on the Index but not ranked. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest is from July 2025, so nothing has been written for over a year.

The early reviews, from January to March 2025, are warm. Brilliant food full of flavour, a big and delicious chicken biryani, good chicken skewers, great cocktails and drinks, and a waiter called Paul who made the evening easy. A Dutch diner on a keto diet was offered a plate of vegetables in place of rice without fuss, and describes a nicely furnished room with alcoves.

Then the picture turns. The most recent review, from July 2025, is one star: terrible food the reviewer believed was frozen and reheated, slow service and a cold atmosphere, which they called their worst experience in Gibraltar. The Dutch reviewer had also been the only guests on a wet March evening.

So the last word on record is a bad one and it is fourteen months old, with nothing since. On ten reviews we cannot tell whether that night was a blip or a decline, or whether the place is still trading as it was; the 4.5 is an average of a good start and a poor finish.
