Our review

Munchies Cafe is a small café and takeaway at 24 Main Street near Casemates, with a few pavement tables for watching the street. It scores 3.4 on Tripadvisor from 5 reviews and 3.8 on Google from 15, and the Index, combining both, puts it at 3.90. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026.

The older reviews, from 2018 to 2023, describe a busy, popular stop: sandwiches and salads made fresh each day, pasties, an egg and mayonnaise sandwich with a flat white while Gibraltar walks to work, soups in winter, a salmorejo in summer, good ice cream and excellent coffee. Efficient, friendly service and WiFi complete a modest but likeable picture.

The picture has changed in 2026, and not for the better. Since April, four one-star reviews across both platforms describe the service: a group of teenagers say they were treated badly and put out, a Spanish party overheard staff predicting they would leave when they saw the prices, one table left three coffees untouched as the worst they had had, and in August a customer was refused service at half past four because the café shuts at five.

Earlier dissent exists too: a 2022 review found a cappuccino that was mostly milk and a sandwich past its date. A July 2026 five-star calls the prices proud but fine for a coffee, which is faint praise.

Very popular cafe on Main Street.
Munchies is a very popular cafe on Main St not far from Casemates. Has a big take away business but there are also several tables outside, to the front. Sandwiches and salads freshly prepared each day. They are lovely. Efficient and friendly service.more →

A nice choice of sandwiches, pasties and salads along with beer, tea or coffee and other soft drinks, you can eat them outside at the tables or take them away. The outside tables are a good place to sit and people watch as you eat your lunch. Worth a visit.more →
