Pickwick's Bistro

Pickwick's Bistro is a small bar with a terrace on Governor's Parade, a quiet square off Main Street. It has 2 Tripadvisor reviews, both five stars, and 4.2 on Google from 51, for an Index of 4.20 carried by Google. We re-read the reviews on 6 September 2026; the newest is from August, and the picture has changed since our July read.

The setting and the service are what people love. The terrace on the little square is praised again and again as a calm spot away from the tourists, with the sunset singled out by one reviewer, and the Hungarian waitress, Anita, is thanked by name three times for kind, professional service, once while running food and drinks single-handed through a busy lunch. Pastries and spring rolls got a mention in late 2025, and one visitor called the coffee excellent.

The food is where 2026 has gone wrong. From May to August, four Google reviewers complain: fish and chips like a cheap frozen school dinner, chips that were soft, chewy and uneatable on two separate visits, and a cold jacket potato, plus a compact menu with many items unavailable, a point a German couple also made in late 2025. An August visitor was refused food with no explanation given.

The pattern is clear enough to state: drinks and the terrace, yes; a meal, increasingly not. The Tripadvisor sample is far too small to stand on its own, and its two glowing reviews are from October and November 2025, before the run of food complaints began.

Come for a beer, a coffee or a glass of wine on a quiet terrace with good service; order food only if you are not fussy about chips, and check what is actually available first.
