Our review

Ram Curry House is a tiny back-street Indian at 46 Turnbull's Lane, just behind the Venture Inn, with a few tables inside and out in the alley. It scores 4.1 on Tripadvisor from 7 reviews and 4.6 on Google from 58, and the Index, weighing both, puts it at 4.5. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026, and the newest are from August.

Reviewers call it a hidden gem and mean it. A butter chicken one weekly customer rates the best they have had, a madras with a decent kick, chicken tikka, chicken mango, a fierce chicken dhansak phall, a chilli-loaded bullet naan, and cheese and garlic naans a Swedish visitor ranked among the best they had eaten. Prices are a constant theme: two curries, rice and poppadoms for about £20 in 2022, and a Spanish visitor in July 2026 called it the cheapest he had seen anywhere in Europe.

The setting is part of it. A Dutch visitor in May 2026 describes Main Street shopkeepers collecting lunch, families, older Indian locals greeting each other and the chef, and eating on the pavement in the sun; the chef Ajay is named, and the young staff are repeatedly called friendly and modest. Reviews now mention lunch as well as evening trade, and several people take their curry to the pub next door.

The one dissenting note is a 2022 visit where a couple were ignored, then told a curt one hour with nobody else in the shop, and left feeling unwelcome. Nothing since repeats it, and the staff draw praise in nearly every later review, but it is the only complaint on record.

A hidden gem
Incredibly good curry house located just off the beaten track. Excellent curry’s at very reasonable prices. Very popular with locals. The staff go out of their way to ensure your meal is exactly as you like it. Aimed at the takeaway market but there are a few tables to allow you to eat at the restaurant.more →

Really rude staff, quite an unpleasant experience.
We were ignored when we went in. We stood about for a while awkwardly whilst the guy was busy with something. There were no other customers. Started to ask if we could order something and the guy just glared at us and said “One hour”. Felt very unwelcome.more →

Surprise wee place
Unreal food. Wee back street curry house that's hard to find. But wat a find. Lamb madras, garlic nan was sublime. Wife got chicken buna and rice. Thought it was lovely . All this was couple of popodoms for 20 quid. Would definitely reccomend it. Just up and on right from venture inn pub🥰👏more →

Fantastisk indisk restaurang! Personalen var otroligt trevlig och fick oss att känna oss välkomna från första stund. Maten smakade genuint och autentiskt, med massor av smak och hög kvalitet. Via een tip van een local (Archie @Prestige) kwamen we gisteren terecht op een plek die je als toerist waarschijnlijk nooit zelf zou vinden. Verscholen in een achteraf steegje in Gibraltar, zonder poespas, zonder hip interieur maar met misschien wel één van de meest authentieke Indiase lunchervaringen die ik buiten India heb gehad.
