Splendid Bar

Splendid Bar is a small, old-fashioned local pub on George's Lane, just off Main Street, scoring 4.2 on Google across 38 reviews. It is not on Tripadvisor, so the Index of 4.20 rests on Google alone. We re-read the reviews on 6 September 2026; the newest with text is from July 2025, so the picture is more than a year old.

The room is the attraction. Reviewers describe pictures of naval vessels and cartoons of dogs playing billiards on the walls, a pool table, two slot machines and a few old Gibraltar hands sheltering from the sun. It is a drinking bar: the only food mentioned across the sample is a cheese sandwich.

The welcome is what people come back for. Visitors say the staff and locals made them feel at home, name Omar as a fine host with plenty of advice for anyone new to Gibraltar, and mention free bar snacks with every beer and prices described as crazy cheap. A Polish visitor sums it up as a very local place with lovely staff and guests.

The main reservation is the beer itself. The newest reviewer, in July 2025, found only bottled and canned beer with nothing on keg, settled for a tin of Guinness, and would probably not return. That is the one real dent in an otherwise warm record.
