Our review

Thi Vietnamese is a restaurant and cocktail terrace at Ocean Village: 4.0 on Tripadvisor from 156 reviews, 3.7 on Google from 212, and an Index of 3.80. The reviews were re-read on 6 September 2026 and run to late August. The split noted in July has widened, and the newest reviews on both sites are the worst.

The good reviews are warm and specific. A hostess named Mercan (also written Maycan) is praised in review after review for remembering guests and looking after them, and the owner tells guests she has run the place for seven years. Salt-and-pepper dishes, chicken curry in a broth, sweet and sour chicken, spicy wings, ginger chicken and ribs are named, along with all-day happy hour, £3 pints and two-for-one cocktails. The lamb curry that brought one party back after three years, with nine friends, is still the best thing anyone has written about it.

The bad reviews are getting worse. On 27 August 2026 a diner who pushed away a dry, stale-looking duck says the owner shouted, snatched their drink and threw it on the table; two reviewers on 13 August sat an hour with two staff running the whole place and left without ordering. A 28 August Google review from a diner with Vietnamese friends says the food is not Vietnamese and that much of the menu is low-grade Chinese, which the dishes people praise, sweet and sour and salt and pepper, rather bear out. A June 2026 review describes cold, flavourless food and a lunch deal on the board that was not honoured.

Older flags stay on the record. A March 2026 review alleges staff eating from the pass with their fingers and toilet bins carried through the kitchen, a single unverified account. A May 2026 party found no alcohol in three-for-one cocktails at £12 each, though a July reviewer found the same mango cocktails strong; a 10 per cent service charge is added and one reviewer says it was not flagged, the room was cold in January, and daytime closing catches people out.

Come, if at all, for the terrace, the happy-hour drinks and the named hostess on a good night, ordering the dishes people name; go in knowing the most recent reviews describe an understaffed room, an aggressive confrontation and food that Vietnamese diners do not recognise. Awful, awful, awful and aggressive behaviour
4pm on a summer afternoon in lovely Gibraltar. I ordered duck, which the waitress (found out she is the owner) suggested I should. It arrived after half an hour. The lettuce was curled and not looking good, it was the outer skin that is peeled off before serving. The duck was very dry, tasteless and looked like it was a few days old. I atmore →

Disappointed with service

Great service, lovely terrace. Salt and Pepper!
Where do I start. Had Amazing service from a lady called Maycan who was friendly and really funny. We had the cocktail specials, Mango, which were really nice and not sure why someone said they were not strong as they were! We only had the bar snack menu on terrace with TV but salt and pepper dishes were amazing. A must try.more →

Cocktail offers but zero alcohol in them. Very poor.
The sign outside offers buy one cocktail and get 2 more free. 3 for 1? Sounds too good to be true. It was. There was zero alcohol in any of the drinks and at £12 each we basically paid £24 for soft drinks that tasted rank. We left the awful drinks pretty much full, went to another bar round the corner and explained we felt we had been ripmore →

This is not Vietnamese food and it is not authentic. The chef is not Asian either. The worst Vietnamese I’ve ever eaten in my life. Some on the menu is actually Chinese food, but a lowest quality Chinese food. This restaurant bring a bad name to Vietnamese food.
